Rejecting Worldly Wiseman

Rejecting Worldly Wiseman

In John Bunyan’s famous work, “Pilgrims Progress”, we read that the main character, Christian, is temporarily taken off course by a deceptive stranger. Christian looks to unload the burden of sin on his back, and this smooth-talker convinces Christian to abandon the straight and narrow path he had been following. We learn that this crafty liar is named Worldly Wiseman.

That name always stuck out to me. When we allow to teach us anything, we must be careful to filter it through Scripture. Many things sound good and right, and may even in part be good and right. It is our responsibility to be sure that we seek and follow the absolute truth. We do this by daily reading and learning from the Bible. God wrote and gave us a book. Let’s learn every word of it!!

This week at Heritage, we will be learning about wisdom. Wisdom is much more than having knowledge of right and wrong. It is being able to understand the meaning behind right and wrong, and choose to follow the way of Christ. Let’s pray for our students to be filled and led by the wisdom of God. May we as their parents lead them in His wisdom.
