The Power Of Prayer

The Power Of Prayer

Acts 12:1-19

Peter rescued from Prison

This week our children are learning about Peter’s miraculous rescue from prison. Herod the king had the apostle James executed. It was a popular move with many of the elite in Jerusalem, so to score more points, Herod arrested Peter with the intention to execute him as well. But while he was in prison he was visited by an angel and escorted safely home. Below are some themes and questions to help you with your discussion this week.

  • What did the other believers do when Peter was arrested? The point is emphasized that when Peter was arrested the other followers of Jesus dedicated themselves to prayer. There was no uprising, they did not storm the prison where he was held, but they prayed to God for his intervention.
  • Did Peter believe what was happening to him? No. He thought he was having a vision of the angel. It was not until he reached the outside that he realized it was all really happening.
  • What does this story teach us about prayer and the use of prayer in the life of the believer? Prayer is an action of trust in God. When we pray it is a way of saying that we believe that God is real and has our best interest at heart. He will do what is best for us and all we do is trust.

No matter what the circumstances were, the people who believed in Jesus always prayed.

Prayerful: I can talk to God about anything.

… pray without ceasing …
