Heritage desires to come alongside parents to cultivate students who are rooted and grounded in Christ, His love and His Truth so that they may continue to grow and flourish in every area of life for God’s glory. We take this responsibility very seriously and therefore much careful thought and consideration goes into our philosophy of education and resources used at Heritage Preschools.

The Classical Education Model

“Classical education depends on a three-part process of training the mind. The early years of school are spent in absorbing facts, systematically laying the foundations for advanced study. In the middle grades, students learn to think through arguments. In the high school years, they learn to express themselves. This classical pattern is called the trivium.” -Susan Wise Bauer, The Well Trained Mind

This three-part process which we call the trivium, is made up of three stages:

  • The Grammar Stage-early school-memorization and recitation of facts

  • The Logic Stage- middle school-logical analysis, organization and assimilation of previously learned facts

  • The Rhetoric Stage-high school-applying knowledge and logic to think and express ideas clearly and creatively

The Grammar Stage is our focus at Heritage Preschools due to the age of our students. During this stage of learning, students are gathering knowledge as the foundation for all other learning. It involves a focus on memorization and recitation which young students enjoy. At Heritage, we start as early as the infants showing children that learning is fun. During structured class time and play, teachers engage children’s bright and curious minds with learning songs, games and activities giving them the learning tools to pave the way to future success.

Biblical Character Training

God’s Word says in Proverbs 22:6 to “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” As we seek to cultivate students who know and love God and are prepared to serve Him effectively in our culture, we understand that a child’s knowledge must be built on God’s Truth and lived out with Godly character. Heritage focuses on teaching children one Biblical character trait per week along with a supporting Scripture verse. Good character is essential to a successful and God-honoring life: children will study many different traits such as those listed below.

  • Prudence - I think carefully before I make a decision

  • Truthfulness - I always tell the truth

  • Diligence - I work hard to accomplish my responsibilities

  • Courage - I have strength and will not be afraid to do what is right because God is with me all the time

ABeka Curriculum

Abeka is one of the premiere Christian curriculums used by private educators for the last forty years. It provides a comprehensive Biblical approach to teaching academics and character.

The Abeka curriculum employs phonics as the most orderly and logical way to approach reading. By teaching the basic building blocks of our English language, students are equipped for a life of learning as they develop effective reading skills.

This advanced curriculum pairs perfectly with Heritage Preschools’ philosophy of education and classical approach to learning, providing students with the foundation for academic success.
